Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Company presents Edward Bond's The Sea, a comedy based on Shakespeare's, The Tempest, which emphasizes the strengths and weaknesses between humans and society while challenging the audience to strive for change in the world.
Directed by David Cabot, The Sea runs November 11-20 and December 1-4 in the Studio Theatre at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, 222 Craft Ave. Performances will be at 8 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Adult tickets are $20 on Thursdays and matinees, $24 on Friday/Saturday evenings, students and seniors are $10 and can be purchased by calling the Pittsburgh Playhouse box office at 412-392-8000 or visiting www.pittsburghplayhouse.com. "This play moves from pathos to tragedy to insanity to hilarity, keeping the audience on The Edge of their seats," said Cabot.
Set in the Edwardian world of 1907, when a roiling storm hits a small seaside village, Willy is unable to save his friend from drowning. His betrothed mourns the loss, while the eccentric cast of townsfolk is unable to help, with worry about aliens, drunkenness, and small-town thinking taking over.
The Conservatory Theatre Company production features scenic design by Johnmichael Bohach, costumes by Michael Montgomery, lighting by Carrie Yacono, sound by StEve Shapiro, and dialect coaching by Nancy Bach.
