Point Park University musical theatre junior Kaley Ann Voorhees, this week, made her Broadway debut, playing the highly coveted leading role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera.
Voorhees made her debut Monday at the Majestic Theatre, opposite Tony Award-nominated Norm Lewis, the first African American to play the Phantom in the New York production.
Voorhees will headline at least two performances a week. As is tradition, Voorhees will share the role with another performer. Since the show's inception, there have always been two Christines. Voorhees is the first leading actress in the history of the New York production to be born after the musical's opening in January 1988.
Voorhees, of Aurora, Ohio, appeared as Olive Ostrovsky in Point Park's Playhouse Jr. production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in May (pictured). She is the recipient of the Jean L. Petit Memorial Music Scholarship Competition and has performed with The Cleveland Pops at Severance Hall.
