The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces its 2013/14 Trust Arts Education Center workshops and classes. These education and community engagement events and initiatives offer low-cost-or completely free-multi-disciplinary arts attractions in the Cultural District to residents and visitors alike. Art lovers of all ages can engage with local artists and participate in a variety of hands-on and performance activities during this yearlong arts and culture program.
"Second Saturday Art Workshops offer participants an opportunity to become an artist for a day," says Tracy Edmunds, Director of Education Programming and Senior Manager, Education and Community Engagement, with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. "These workshops allow artists of all ages and experience levels to create new work or learn new methods."
This season, the Second Saturday Art Workshops include a variety of programs, including jewelry making, painting, cartooning, puppet making, quilting, and more. In addition to the Saturday workshops, evening yoga and belly dancing classes are offered. Yoga instructor Alison K. Babusci draws on her favorite practices from different types of yoga to create an eclectic class, encouraging participants to breathe, work, and relax. Instructor Narah Minardi teaches the ancient art of belly dancing, a dance of pure joy and celebration that tones the whole body and increases flexibility and endurance.
All classes and workshops are held at the Trust Arts Education Center, 805/807 Liberty Avenue in the Cultural District. All workshops require registration and a fee unless otherwise noted. Yoga and belly dance classes are for participants age 18+.
