Robert Harling's 'Steel Magnolias' directed by Betty Gregg opens at the Pittsburg Community Theatre on February 12.
Steel Magnolias is a must see. A comedy/drama that will make you laugh one minute and bring you to tears the next. Steel Magnolias is a bitter sweet story of six women who share the same beauty shop, Truvy's. This is where all the action takes place.
Shelby is getting married and she knows exactly what she wants in life; to be a wife, and mother. There's only one problem. Shelby is a severe diabetic and a pregnancy could cost her her life.
Characters include: Shelby (played by Gretchen Lee of Walnut Creek), newly married and only a year later a mother-to-be: M'Lynn (played by Tina Smith of Concord) Shelby's mother, frightened that the pregnancy will be too hard on Shelby; Truvy (played by Kendra Borja of Antioch) the shop owner, a peacemaker and friend; Annelle (played by Jessica Knecht) youngest and newest to join the beautician group; Clairee (played by Joyce Tubb of Concord) the widowed, ex-mayor's wife; and Ouiser (played by Suzan Lorraine of Concord) her eccentric best friend.
Share the feelings of these women as they journey with each other through the joy of a wedding day, to the depths of despair as Shelby's fight for life is revealed.
