Stage Right's professional season will continue with the musical Pippin coming to the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, February 17-19. The production features, in the title role, Alex Noble, fresh off his turn in PMT's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Renata Marino (Greensburg) as the Leading Player, Tony Marino (Greensburg) as King Charlemagne, Greg Kerestan (Greensburg) as Lewis, Courtney Harkins (Penn Trafford) as Fastrada, Kim McLeod (Greensburg) as Pippin's Grandmother Berthe, Will Beddick (Latrobe) as the young boy Theo and, making her Stage Right debut, Lauren-Rose King (Pittsburgh) as Catherine. The show is musically directed by Chris McAlister (Johnstown) with a scenic design by Mark Kissner (Pgh Public Theatre).
Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day. Pippin has an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden).
Artistic Director Tony Marino: "This is a show that contains some of the greatest songs in the musical theatre canon. "Magic to Do", "Simple Joys", "Glory" "Morning Glow" are fantastic pieces on their own, but in the context of the show they become powerful and moving moments of theatrical perfection. Plus, this show allows musical theatre actors to experience the brilliance of Bob Fosse. Renata is using his inspiration to create the look of the choreography, and it's something you won't want to miss. Not to mention her and Alex working as Pippin and the Leading Player are going to be absolutely dynamite! Lastly, we welcome to our stage for the first time, Lauren-Rose King. She just relocated here from NYC where she was a highly sought-after vocal coach and performer. She's quickly become the same thing here at Stage Right. This all adds up to what is going to be a very special night in the theatre."
Pippin will be performed at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center on Friday February 17 and Saturday February 18 at 7:30 and Sunday February 19 at 2:00. For tickets please call the Stage Right Box Office at 724.832.7464 or the Palace Box Office at 724.836.8000.
