On Friday, November 23rd PICT Classic Theatre will present the first production of it's 2018-2019 Season, The Old Curiosity Shop, at WQED's Fred Rogers Studio in Oakland.
The play has been adapted by PICT Artistic Director Alan Stanford from a series of short stories and novels by Charles Dickens that appeared in the author's weekly publication Master Humphrey's Clock, composed between 1840 and 1841. The story follows the journey of Little Nell, a fourteen-year-old girl, and her grandfather, the proprietor of the eponymous shop, as they evade an evil moneylender, meet with blessings and misfortune, and encounter wide variety of vibrant characters. Dickens' tale became so popular throughout the world, that in 1841, when the final installment arrived by ship to New York City, the wharf was overrun by anxious readers wanting to know what became of the story's young heroine, Little Nell.
