PICT Classic Theatre announces its 2017-2018 Season, with a focus on classic authors William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and Charlotte Brontë, in new performance venues in Crafton, Oakland, and Point Breeze.
The season will begin in August with a preliminary special event, MURDER AT THE CRAFT HOUSE: WHO KILLED Alan Stanford?, a reception and interactive murder mystery performance, featuring PICT's own Artistic and Executive Director as the presumed victim. The event will be held at the historic Charles Craft House, 8 Alice Street in Crafton, built by the man for whom Crafton is named. WHO KILLED Alan Stanford will have five performances August 23rd through 27th.
PICT's main stage season will open with William Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET on October 21st, 2017 at WQED's FrEd Rogers Studio in Oakland; the very studio that hosted the production of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood from 1968 to 2001. ROMEO AND JULIET and the opening of PICT's 2017-2018 Season will be celebrated on September 26th with the ROYAL REGALE II: MONTAGUES VS CAPULETS, a gala event and reception, also held at the FrEd Rogers Studio.
December of 2017 will include "Wilde at the Frick," a series of performances taking place at The Frick Art Museum in Point Breeze with a focus on prolific Irish author Oscar Wilde. IN THE COMPANY OF Oscar Wilde, a U.S. premiere composed from the words and writings of Wilde himself, will perform December 6th through 10th. "Wilde at the Frick" will also include two special one-day-only performances. THE TRIAL OF Oscar Wilde, a recreation of Wilde's final cross-examination written by his grandson Merlin Holland, will be presented on Sunday, December 10th at 7:30pm, followed by a post-show discussion led by PICT Artistic and Executive Director Alan Stanford, and Frick Pittsburgh Executive Director Robin Nicholson. Oscar Wilde FAIRY TALES, a family-friendly reading of two of Wilde's famous fairy tales written for his sons, will take place Saturday, December 9th at 2:00pm.
The season will conclude in April 2018 with JANE EYRE, by Alan Stanford, from the novel by Charlotte Brontë, at WQED's FrEd Rogers Studio, April 5th through 28th. This dramatization by Stanford was originally commissioned by the Gate Theatre in Dublin and has proved a box-office hit wherever it has been performed, including the Guthrie Theater where it established record ticket sales.
