Organic Theater Pittsburgh is thrilled to announce its summer 2013 lineup, which will feature SCARCITY by Lucy Thurber, The GREENHOUSE Project: A New Play Incubator, and the WATER STEP Campaign.

Organic Theater Pittsburgh presents SCARCITY by Lucy Thurber this August 8th - 18th at The Studio Theater at PITT. In the vein of television shows like Roseanne and Showtime's Shameless, SCARCITY explores what life is like in America on the wrong side of the tracks. You'll meet the Lawrence family, whose scruples are constantly being challenged by the question, "How far are you willing to go to survive?"

Organic also debuts The GREEHOUSE Project: A New Play Incubator, where local playwrights will pen brand-new plays on the theme of scarcity vs. overconsumption in America and around the globe. Reading of selected plays will be presented on August 12th - 14th at The Studio Theater and will be followed by talkbacks with the playwrights and actors. One play will be selected to be work-shopped and will receive a full production by Organic Theater Pittsburgh.

In an effort to address the sobering fact that nearly 1 billion people around the world are faced with the scarcity of access to clean drinking water, Organic will also team-up with WATER STEP, a humanitarian organization which empowers volunteers with the ability to assist communities around the world with sustainable water solutions.

As it is an actor's mission to "imagine him or herself in someone else's shoes," Organic will host a Water Walk on Saturday, August 3rd from the University of Pittsburgh to the 3 Rivers to collect water. This experiment will be filmed in a documentary style to explore what it feels like for countless people around the world who are forced to travel miles each day to get the water they need for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

WATER STEP accepts donations of new and gently-worn shoes to help fund clean drinking water projects around the world. Organic Theater Pittsburgh will offer a $5 discount on the cost of admission to SCARCITY to those patrons who bring a pair of shoes to be donated.

SCARCITY by Lucy Thurber features Matt Bonacci, Bridget Carey, Hannah McGee, Michael E. Moats, Meagan Reagle, Jaime Slavinsky and Michael Young.
