Local Mancini Award Winners to Compete in Nat'l Musical Theater Competition in NY, 6/27

The Post-Gazette reports that John Michael Taormina from Quigley Catholic High School and Bethany Menjivar from Ambridge Area High School are Mancini Award winners picked to compete at the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York.  They were among the winners announced May 18 at the 17th annual Geneva College Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards for Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties.

Twenty-five regional awards programs from around the country will participate in the Third Annual National High School Musical Theater Awards.   Each will send two talented nominees to New York for a week of rehearsals, master classes and private coaching sessions. The week's events will culminate in a live awards show on Monday, June 27, 2011, at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway.

Three or more Mancini Award winners were chosen in each category. They are listed in random order, as they were announced.

Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role:

• John Michael Taormina as Curly, "Oklahoma!," Quigley Catholic High School
• Christian Beck as Ren, "Footloose," Freedom Area High School
• Andy Guthrie as Tevye, "Fiddler on the Roof," Beaver County Christian School

Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role:

• Bethany Menjivar as Millie Dillmount, "Thoroughly Modern Millie," Ambridge Area High School
• Hannah Beightley as Anne Shirley, "Anne and Gilbert," Rochester Area High School
• Elizabeth Damp as Lili, "Carnival," Central Valley High School

Outstanding Male in a Supporting Role:

• Tyler Marinkovic as Mr. Applegate, Damn Yankees, New Brighton Area High School
• Greg Perciavalle, as Trevor Graydon, "Thoroughly Modern Millie," Ambridge Area High School
