Jumping Jack Theater Artistic Director Stephen Santa and Executive Director Rebecca Covert announced today the creative team and cast for a multi-sensory stage adaptation of George MacDonald's Scottish fairy tale, The Light Princess, directed by Santa. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Arts Education Department is presenting the work. Covert co-wrote this unique adventure with Jumping Jack creative team member Joann Kielar, who is also serving as the Props Designer for the production. The show plays June 3 to June 4 as a part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival. Thanks to the partnership with the Trust, tickets to all performances will be free.

The Light Princess features the Light Princess herself played by another Jumping Jack creative team member, Claire Sabatine; her parents - the hysterically sensitive King and demandingly sarcastic Queen - and a kingdom filled with a silly crop of Experts, an agile and lively Jester and a curious Prince. Born without gravity, the Light Princess floats and laughs her way through each day. Her unusual behavior baffles and worries her family who views life resolutely from the ground. As her family struggles to accept her unique nature, an unexpected visitor comes along who changes everything.

Accompanying Sabatine onstage is a seasoned group of performers. The talented cast includes: Val Williams as Queen; Parag Gohel as King; Tony II Lorrich as Prince; Joe Serafini as Jester.

The company strives to create original works for audiences that would benefit from sensory and autism-friendly strategies. The Light Princess is no exception. The piece will include visually spectacular moments, puppets, and plenty of audience interaction and participation. One of the key elements to the show is the "audience fidget" (a keychain) to enhance the sensory experience.

In addition to Santa, Covert, and Kielar, the creative team includes: Set Designer Sabrina Hykes Davis; Costume Designer Jessica Kavanagh; Puppet Designer Britton Mauk; Composer Irene Monteverde.

Dale Hess will serve as Production Stage Manager.
