Kristoffer Diaz's Pulitzer Prize nominated play The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity makes its Pittsburgh debut at the ACE Hotel Gymnasium, produced by barebones productions, on Thursday, January 26.
The play features New York actors Gil Perez-Abraham as "Mace" (The Young Pope, Madam Secretary), Broadway veteran Javon Johnson as "Chad Deity" (Prison Break, Lombardi) and rising Boston stand-up Nick Slade as VP.
All three are slated to get in the ring joined by seasoned pro-wrestler Jared Bajoras (The Bad Guy, Billy Heartland, Old Glory) and coached by former WCW/ECW Champion and WWE alumnus Shane "The Franchise" Douglas, featuring actor Patrick Jordan (The Dark Knight Rises) in the role of Everett K. Olson (aka EKO).
Produced by critically acclaimed barebones productions, this acclaimed work slams together thrilling spectacle, incredible characters and geopolitical allegory into an invigorating theatrical experience you can't find on pay-per-view. The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity tackles racism, drop-kicks globalization and brings this championship tale onto center stage when it opens in the ACE Hotel Gymnasium next week.
The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity had its world premiere in 2009 at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago before moving to Second Stage in New York. This Pittsburgh premiere allows a fresh take on the groundbreaking work, which had been popularly received with the 2011 New York Times Play Prize, the Obie Award for Best New American Play and the Lucille Lortel Award for Best New Play.
