The boy-meets-girl story gets a facelift in Heisenberg, a new romantic comedy by contemporary British playwright Simon Stephens. This Pittsburgh premiere will be directed by Tracy Brigden (Disgraced, The Price at The Public). Heisenberg runs March 8 - April 8, 2018 at the O'Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theater's home in the heart of Downtown's Cultural District. For tickets call 412.316.1600 or visit ppt.org.
In Heisenberg, Georgie (Robin Abramson) is a 40-something, free-spirited American woman and Alex (Anthony Heald) is an inhibited, retirement-age Irishman. Although the two seem mismatched, an electricity develops between them. The title of the play is taken from the Uncertainty Principle of physicist Werner Heisenberg. As applied by the playwright, it refers to the vast number of outcomes a new relationship can have. At The Public, Heisenberg will be performed in the round, with a seating bank installed in the usual backstage area.
Robin Abramson, a graduate of Gateway High School and Point Park University, has frequently performed in Pittsburgh. She recently moved to New York and starred in an acclaimed Off-Broadway production of Shadowlands. Anthony Heald has a distinguished career on stage, film, and television. He was twice nominated for Tony Awards, played Dr. Frederick Chilton in The Silence of the Lambs, and had a recurring role on "Boston Public."
The design team for Heisenberg is Brian Sidney Bembridge (Scenic and Lighting), Ted Pappas (Costumes), and Zach Moore (Sound). Fred Noel is the Production Stage Manager, Don Wadsworth is the Dialect Coach, and Casting is by Lauren Port, CSA .
Simon Stephens, who was born in 1971 in Manchester England, has been described as the most prolific playwright of his generation. He has received a pair of Olivier Awards, and the 2015 Tony for his adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Produced by Manhattan Theatre Club, Heisenberg premiered on Broadway in 2015. It opened in London in 2017.
