City Theatre gets festive with A BROADWAY HOLIDAY, a one-night-only concert featuring performances by award-winning Broadway stars Billy Porter and Anthony Rapp. With local talents Maria Becoates-Bey, Daina Michelle Griffith, and Billy Hartung, the special performance will include hit Broadway songs as well as a variety of holiday favorites.
A BROADWAY HOLIDAY, a musical benefit for City Theatre, will take place Monday, December 14 on City Theatre's Mainstage, 1300 Bingham Street, South Side. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., benefit concert begins at 7:00 p.m. Premium ticketholders are invited to stay after the performance for a reception with the artists.
"I am thrilled that Billy and Anthony will bring their enormous talents back to City Theatre," said Artistic Director Tracy Brigden. "I am so grateful to these two dear friends of City Theatre who have generously made time in their busy performing schedules to ring in the holidays with us here in Pittsburgh."
Thomas W. Douglas is music director and on keyboard. Band includes Paul Thompson on bass, James Johnson III on drums. Devanand Janki is the Artistic Coordinator.
Billy Porter is a Tony and Grammy Award-winning actor from Pittsburgh, PA. He appeared at City Theatre in Ghetto Superstar (The Man That I Am) in 2005 and Topdog/Underdog in 2004. His recent credits include starring as "Lola" in the smash hit Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which he won the 2013 Drama Desk and Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical. His current project, Shuffle Along, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, will open on Broadway in April 2016.
Anthony Rapp is currently on the national tour of the Broadway production of If/Then. He previously appeared at City Theatre as Andy Warhol in POP! in 2012, in the world premiere of his rock memoir, Without You in 2008, in his brother Adam Rapp's play Gompers in 2004, and as the title role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch in 2003. Rapp is best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in Rent and performing it on Broadway and in the 2005 film adaptation.
