'AleynaAnna', a taut one-act drama, will be performed on the main stage at the 28th Pittsburgh New Works Festival, August 30-September 8 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Selected from hundreds of international entries, Allston James's play is among twelve works awarded full productions at the festival.
Nick Mitchell will direct Elena Falgione, Ava Condron, and Noelle Jordan in the all-female cast. Allston James says of the play, "The lives of three strangers-a young girl, two women-intersect in an airport departures lounge. The catalyst is a simple article of clothing with bold ramifications for the audience as well as the characters."
The Pittsburgh New Works Festival, in its 28th season-Dek Ingraham, Festival Director-annually presents a Labworks series of six plays in addition to producing the twelve Main Stage plays, all chosen from global submissions.
Allston James is two-time winner of the British Theatre Challenge in London and the William Broyles Award for Distinguished Playwriting as well as Semi-Finalist for the 2017 Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing.
"How do we see one another? Does the truth of who we really are even matter to others? I think 'AleynaAnna' goes to the heart of these questions," says James.
