The first of two Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) summer camp sessions begins Monday, June 1 and the second starts Monday, July 6.
"All-Star Summer Playhouse is for children 5 to 6 years old," said VYT's new Director of Education and Outreach Israel Jimenez, "while Musical Theatre Summer Workshop is designed for 7 to 16 year olds."
A graduate of the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts with a B.F.A. in Theatre from the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, Jimenez spent the last five years teaching at Arizona School for the Arts. He replaces Lauren Antioco, who left after nine years to spend time with her newborn baby.
"We will all miss Lauren and wish her the best," said Producing Artistic Director Bobb Cooper, "but feel fortunate to have found Israel with his wealth of experience." Jimenez has appeared in or directed productions on six local stages, as well as the Pacific Conservatory and Seattle Children's Theatres.
The first session of All-Star Summer Playhouse runs Monday through Friday, June 1 through 25, and the second July 6 through 30. "Campers learn theatre basics with games and activities in the first three hours," added Jimenez, "and spend the afternoon doing theatre arts and crafts." Tuition per session is $335.00 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or $610.00 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before and aftercare is not available.
"The young adult workshop focuses on triple-threat exercises (acting, dance and music)," Jimenez continued, "with practical experience in auditioning, rehearsal and performance." The Musical Theatre Summer Workshop runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the first session from June 1 through 26 and the second July 6 through 31. Tuition is $670.00 per session with before and/or aftercare available for a small fee.
Both sessions of both camps conclude with a showcase production performed for friends and family.
