Everyone's a star in AdaptiveWorks! The AdaptiveWorks program provides genuine theatrical experiences to people with both mental and physical disabilities for ages 12 and up. From the audition process to the rehearsals and then finally to the performance; AdaptiveWorks actors are able to experience an actual theatrical production from start to finish. The 11-week program ends in a full main stage performance. Actors will focus on the performance side of theater. Building and expanding upon fundamentals, members will work together to create a show for the audiences. This program is for those who love acting and are ready to work hard to create something great. Rehearsals will be twice a week for an hour and a half. One day a week for a full cast rehearsal and one day a week to meet with smaller groups.
The production set to start rehearsals in February of next year will be Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
TheaterWorks has been providing adaptive theater programming for more than three years. Through our program, an existing show is used and then modified by the students to become their own. The program culminates in a full-scale theatrical show. Participants get the opportunity to work in a professional setting with writers, directors and actors to develop a musical theater production. TheaterWorks is able to impact a population of individuals that deserve to participate in the arts, as well as further the mission of providing enriching experiences that impact the community. This would be the first program of its kind done in the West Valley.
The cost of program registration is $180. To learn more and/or register, please go to: http://theaterworks.org/adaptiveworks/
