Theater Works Holds General Season Auditions; Youth Works Seeks Actors for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Theater Works will hold its Master Works season general auditions beginning June 14, 2012. Shows will be directed by Robyn Allen (Artistic Director for Theater Works) and other guest directors.

Theater Works season features musicals, drama, and comedy, including Doubt, The Music Man, A Christmas Carol, Musical of Musicals (the musical) and Accomplice.

Audition Dates: Equity (straight play only) Thurs. June 14th 2PM - 5PM. Sat. June 16th equity and non-equity musical auditions 10AM-2PM; Straight play auditions 2:30-6:00. Sun June 17th equity and non-equity musical auditions 1:30-4:30; straight play auditions 5:00PM-8:00PM. Ages: 16+.

Note that if you are interested in auditioning for both plays and musicals, you will only attend the auditions for musicals. Audition Times are by appointment at Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, located at 8355 W. Peoria Ave. Peoria, AZ. Callbacks will be announced. Payment includes Equity Special Appearance and small stipends for non-union.

Straight Plays include Doubt, A Christmas Carol, Accomplice. Musicals include The Music Man, Musical of Musicals (the musical).

All roles are available with the exception of Sister Aloysius in Doubt. For straight play auditions, prepare two contrasting monologues ½ minutes each. For musical auditions, come prepared with two contrasting songs, 16 bars each. You can substitute one of the songs for a 1 ½ minute monologue.

Backstage crew is also needed.

Youth Works will also be auditioning for Little Shop of Horrors, in which a down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite. Where will its hunger end?

The show will be directed by Chris Hamby with musical director Athena Hunting and choreographer Paul Pedersen. Little Shop of Horrors runs August 31st-September 16th 2012 in the Gyder Theater.

Auditions will be held June 30th and July 1st 2012. They will consist of cold readings from the script and a prepared song. Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theater selection. A CD player and MP3 player port will be provided. There will be no piano accompaniment. There will be a separate dance audition.

Auditions are open to performers' age 10-19 years of age.

ROLES:

SEYMOUR: Our insecure, put-upon, florist's clerk, hero.
AUDREY: His co-worker and the bleached-blonde, secret love of his life.
MR. MUSHNIK: Their boss. A failure of a Lower East Side Florist.
ORIN: A tall, dark, handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies.
CRYSTAL, RONNETTE, CHIFFON: Three female street urchins who function as participants in the action and a Greek chorus outside.
VOICE OF AUDREY II: Sounds like Wolfman Jack and sings hot, funky blues.
PUPPETEERS: The creature is played by a series of puppets that get bigger and bigger with each scene. The first time we see the plant it is one foot tall. The last time we see it, it fills the entire stage.
MRS. LUCE: From Time Life magazine.
AGENT: Offers Seymour a lecturing tour.
PatRick Martin: From World Botanical Enterprises.
BERNSTEIN: From NBC.
NEW YORKERS/CHORUS: The inhabitants of Skid Row. These include florist customers, bums, etc.
