The holidays are a special time at The Nash as the renowned jazz club sprinkles a dash of holiday themed concerts throughout the month, bringing classic jazz and hot Latin sounds to warm up the holiday month. Highlights include the arrival of one of the most renowned samba bands, direct from New York City, Duduka da Fonseca Trio w/ Maucha Adnet on December 9th. Both Duduka and Maucha worked closely with the iconic Antonio Carlos Jobin, the King of Bossa Nova.

Other highlights include a Tribute to Mongo Santamaria, the Afro-Cuban percussionist on December 15, and a New Year's Eve Celebration on December 31. (Includes champagne and dessert reception.)


The Nash is located at 110 E. Roosevelt St on Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix.

"Have Yourself A Jazzy Little Christmas" - A holiday concert full of fun for everyone and Special Collection for "Toys for Tots" Composer/arranger Mike Crotty, singer Deater O'Neill and their sextet have put a new twist on the old, familiar Christmas tunes, combining them with a bit of humor and surprise.They've cooked up a jazzy evening that promises to delight kids of all ages with some swinging, funky, foot-stompin', musical holiday fun!

For the third year, they have joined with the U.S. Marine Corps and its "Toys for Tots" Program to collect toys for the Phoenix area's children in need. They hope you'll bring a new, unwrapped toy and join them for this annual event and one of the season's most heart-warming jazz performances!

Direct from New York City, this group of world-renowned samba jazz musicians features native Brazilian musicians Dudka Da Fonseca (of Trio da Paz), Helio Alves and Vocalist Adnet. Both Duduka and Maucha worked closely and extensively with the iconic Antonio Carlos Jobin and are recognized internationally for expanding the worlds of jazz and Latin music. All of these musicians have extensive performance and recording histories with top exponents of Latin music, including artists such Jobin, Milton Nascimento, Claudio Roditi, Paquito D'Rivera, Gato Barbieri, Airto Moreira & Flora Purim and Oscar Castro-Neves. From the mid-1970s through the early 90s, Francine reigned as the most popular jazz and blues vocalist in the Valley. In fact, she was still winning New Times/Best of Phoenix awards after she moved to Atlanta! Francine appeared with her bands Jazz Alive and Fever at venues such as The Boojum Tree, Chuy's and Chuy's Next Door/The Night Club, Churchill's Pub and Bombay Bicycle Club, plus numerous festivals and concert halls. She has been part of Lyle Lovett's Large Band since the mid 80's, appeared on The Tonight Show, and appeared for many seasons in Seattle's high-energy dinner-theatre cabaret, Teatro ZinZanni. What an amazingly diverse and exciting career!

The South Mountain Latin Jazz Band, under the direction of Eddie Gaona, focuses on playing the exciting rhythms of Latin fused with Jazz. The two most influential mixers are Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music. This combined with Jazz comes across as passionate, intense, powerful and exciting!
Eddie Gaona has been a music educator for over 35 years, a professional trumpet player, an arranger and the leader of a Latin band. Eddie is currently music director and theory instructor at South Mountain Community College.

Tribute to Mongo Santamaria (Latin Jazz/Boogaloo Music from the 1970s)

Ramón "Mongo" Santamaría Rodríguez (April 7, 1917 - February 1, 2003) was a rumba quinto master and an Afro-Cuban Latin jazz percussionist. He is most famous for being the composer of the jazz standard "Afro Blue", recorded by John Coltrane among others. In 1950 he moved to New York City where he played with Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, Fania All Stars, etc. He was an integral figure in the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with R&B and soul, paving the way for the boogaloo era of the late 1960s. His 1963 hit rendition of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" (recorded on December 17, 1962) was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.

Come to the Nash for a dazzling concert of the music of Oscar Peterson, "The Maharaja of the keyboard". This spectacular night will be led by Josh Condon, a devoted jazz pianist and classical pianist, who has won accolades and honors in both genres-including an Outstanding Soloist Award in jazz piano from the Charles Mingus Summit in NYC; first prize as a classical pianist in the Junior All-Star Piano Competition and the David Hochstein Piano Competition. Josh has worked with and has been mentored by jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Bill Cunliffe and John Clayton, and has been featured in Keyboard Magazine.
