This year The Episcopal Actors' Guild, one of New York's oldest charities for performing artists, is celebrating 90 years of helping actors "of all faiths, and none." Since 1923, we have given millions of dollars in emergency aid to professional performers in need, including 191 actors in 2012, many of who were facing eviction, utility shut-offs, and daunting medical expenses.
EAG also is an active membership organization, and is proud to have included notable actors like Fred Astaire, Jean Stapleton, Angela Lansbury, and Sam Waterston as both members and champions of our cause.
In celebration of this milestone, The Episcopal Actors' Guild is hosting a 90th Anniversary Gala Benefit, being held at New York's Open Center on the evening of Sunday, October 6. Festivities will include a cocktail party with hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, a raffle, and the presentation of 90 Years of Broadway: EAG's Theatrical Journey, an original musical revue highlighting the organization's unique and important history.
Comprised of stories and popular music from the past 90 years, this special show will feature performances by Marni Nixon (The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady),Tonya Pinkins (Jelly's Last Jam, Caroline, or Change), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, Kiss of the Spider Woman), Sarah Rice (Sweeney Todd), Lee Roy Reams (42nd Street, The Producers), Jana Robbins (Gypsy, Crimes of the Heart), Anna Bergman (Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration), Walter Willison (Pippin), Heather Mac Rae (Hair), Ellyn Marie Marsh (Kinky Boots), Jennifer Fouché (Sistas the Musical), and Alicia Sable (Gypsy, Alpha House). The show is written by FRAN HANDMAN (Polka Dot Door) and directed by Mark York (accompanist for Jim Dale).
Ticket prices range from $40.00 to $500.00, with all proceeds going directly to helping local actors in need.
