It's hot in Southern Arizona in the summertime (DUH!), and many local theatres take a breather until rehearsals begin for their fall line ups. There are exceptions:

Live Theatre Workshop, 5317 E. Speedway Blvd., opens Dorothy Parker's Last Call, written and performed by celebrated Tucson performer, Lesley Abrams. Poet, critic, author, activist and member of the infamous Algonquin Round Table, Dorothy Parker delighted in skewering the culture of early Twentieth Century. This original one-woman show. is a dynamic exploration of the life of America's first lady of wit. June 19 - July 19, 2014 Next up, Molly Sweeney, by Brian Friel. A poetic tale of a woman blind since infancy, who is given the chance to see. A beautiful exploration of Molly's fantasies and expectations of how modern medicine will change everything she's ever known - including the lives of those closest to her. July 24 - August 30, 2014.

And what says summer in the desert more than a zany production at the Great American Playhouse's bright new, wonderfully roomy, air conditioned, fully accessible theatre? You can relish terrific food, excellent drinks including pitchers of craft beer and endless baskets of popcorn all while enjoying pure entertainment - NAOMI & MICHELLE'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE (Runs June 12- August 30). If our girls flunk history, they won't graduate! Come along as they time travel through American History and discover how hair products have improved. Opening June 12 7010 E. Broadway Blvd.; 886-9428 greatamericanplayhouse.com Also TERRIFIC summer camps for children!
