Copperstar Repertory Co. was all but pronounced dead this fall after being completely upside down and financially destitute. After 21 wonderful shows and six successful summers of Musical Theatre Camps, Copperstar made the heart-breaking decision to shut their doors. In an attempt to cover debt, Copperstar has been forced to liquidate their stock of sets and costumes.
However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Copperstar and those who have been hoping to see a comeback. Copperstar recently met with Higley Center of the Performing Arts and Higley Community Education and the two organizations will be partnering for Summer Musical Theatre Camps and a community-wide production of LES MISERABLES. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the cast below!
Copperstar has assembled a first rate production team for LES MISERABLES. Music directing will be Matt Flora, choral director at Gilbert's Campo Verde High. This epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes and honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father - violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean's adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed. (Parental discretion advised. Violence, language, drinking, seductive scenes. Recommended ages 12+).
