Cast members from Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) and Herberger Theater Center's (HTC) co-production of Disney's "Mary Poppins" took the show on the road Tuesday, June 19, for a very special performance at Phoenix Children's Hospital (PCH).
Mary Poppins (played by Renée Kathleen Koher), Bert (Chris McNiff), and members of the "Practically Perfect" cast provided a short story time followed by a performance of the show's signature show-stopping number "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" to a group of 25+ patients and families who currently reside at PCH. The group packed the Activities Room at the hospital for the live performance which was simulcast via closed-circuit TV to patients' rooms. Mary and Bert also had the chance to make a few in-room visits for those unable to attend the group gathering.
Over the past four seasons, Arizona Broadway Theatre and PCH have partnered to provide some much-needed smiles to kids and families who call PCH home during what can be a trying and scary time.
"Of all the promotional and outside events we have the opportunity to take part in, our time with our friends at Phoenix Children's Hospital is by far one of the most meaningful, and we are so grateful for our partnership with them," said Brad York, the director of marketing at Arizona Broadway Theatre.
Mary Poppins is onstage at Arizona Broadway Theatre in Peoria through June 30 and transfers to Herberger Theater Center in Downtown Phoenix July 6-22. Venue and ticketing information for both organizations can be found online at azbroadway.org/mary-poppins.
