About the Concert:
"Music doesn't know about borders, only travel!" stated Alfredo Ortiz at a 2010 Prescott concert. With this truism in mind, we present a concert filled with music that has crossed our borders with the countless foreign citizens who have brought with them traditions, melodies and instruments from other countries.
Often thought of as "traditional' in nature, this music is related to a specific national culture, often communicated only through oral means and is truly music of the people; the sounds of their lives set to a catch tune. In the same way that people have a mixed background, with ancestors originating from different continents, so too is our unique and rich musical heritage a representative blend of influences. This concert explores traditional music arriving from various countries, as well as the inevitable fusion of cultures found in so much American music.
