Theater Works at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA) celebrates the holiday with its MasterWorks production of The Quiltmaker's Gift opening in the Gyder Theater today, December 6th .
The Quiltmaker's Gift is a musical play that is truly intended for all ages. It is simultaneously sophisticated and childlike while celebrating the true value of generosity and spirit of community...a message that is perfect for the Christmas season.
The Quiltmaker's Gift delightfully tells the story of a mysterious and compassionate old quilt maker who spends each day stitching beautiful quilts for people who need them.
A greedy king hears about the Quiltmaker and her beautiful quilts and decides that he must have one. The Quiltmaker is unwilling to give the greedy king a quilt and instead sends him on a journey of self-discovery, teaching him that happiness does not come from acquiring things but from giving freely to others.
The Quitlmaker's Gift is directed by Rusty Ferracane, a well-known actor and director in the Valley and composer, Craig Bohmler, serves as the musical director.
The role of the Quiltmaker is played by Carolyn Folks. Ms. Folks has been a featured soprano soloist with multiple symphony and chamber orchestras and her lyric, soprano voice has received outstanding reviews across the country.
Joshua Vern, who was most recently seen as the lead in Theater Works' How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying returns as the very selfish, greedy king.
The original production of The Quiltmaker's Gift was developed and produced at Phoenix Theatre and is based on the beloved book by Jeff Brumbeau and illustrated by Gail deMarcken. It was adapted for the stage by Allan Prewitt with lyrics by Steven Mark Kohn.
The Quiltmaker's Gift opens today, December 6, 2014 and runs through December 21, 2014. All performances are at The Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, 8355 West Peoria Avenue, Peoria AZ.
