MusicaNova Orchestra announces its robust schedule of performances for the upcoming 2016/17 season. Known for tackling novel repertoire, MusicaNova has planned a wide variety of offerings highlighted by its Orchestra Concert Series which explores the classical origins and similarities between several music genres.
The MusicaNova Season also includes an extensive schedule of recitals with top young artists in the Valley as well as free community concerts with a wide range of artists, from the Dry River Yacht Club, to the Sonoran Marimba Band. Led by Music Director Warren Cohen, MusicaNova Orchestra is comprised of accomplished and gifted professional musicians in Phoenix. OCTOBER 2016Led by Dr. Doug Nottingham, this 5-piece band comes to Scottsdale for a delightful free concert, showcasing the versatility and melodies of the marimba, the Guatemalan instrument with deep Latin American and African roots.
17-year old violist Ryan Grieser will stun audiences with his skill as he performs in recital, along with 14-year old Jessica Zhang on piano.
The MusicaNova Orchestra plays Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 5 (Jack White's inspiration for The White Stripes hit, Seven Nation Army), the world premiere of a work by a MusicaNova Orchestra Composition Fellow, and a special Dia de los Muertos work. In collaboration with student-musicians from Tempe high schools.
NOVEMBER 2016Dry River Yacht Clubs is an all-acoustic symphony indie rock band. They are known for mixing together an assortment of musical references and high energy execution to create a sound that's eclectic and entirely their own. Songwriting in DRYC is a collaborative effort - every member contributes his or her personal style, and together they build and refine each song until it's ready to share with the world.
JANUARY 2017High school harpists Mariana Tiffany and Hanna Guan join together on harp for a heavenly afternoon recital. They will perform along with the incredible phenoms, 10-year old Lawrence Wen and 12-year old Asuka Firdaus on piano.
