Les 7 doigts de la main was founded in 2002 with a mission to bring circus to a human scale, placing the extraordinary element of circus in ordinary contexts. The company's virtuoso performers fuse traditional circus arts, such as hoops, trapeze, teeterboard and juggling, with dance, theater and comedy.
In Scottsdale, Les 7 doigts de la main performs one of its newest creations, Sequence 8, which carries emotional dynamics to a point of explosion and propulsion. In this show, heightened emotions spring into action, and relationships transform and evolve until they create actual velocity. Set not in a specific time or place but rather on a vertical canvas of sorts, this acrobatic dance and theater piece contemplates the role of the "other" and how people define themselves through and against it.
Created in 2012, Sequence 8 has been performed around the world to rave reviews. "This is a show that sets the benchmark for modern circus eye-poppingly high," notes the London Daily Standard.
Les 7 doigts de la main's unique name is a twist on the French expression "the five fingers of the hand," which describes distinct parts united and moving in coordination towards one common goal. In much the same way, the seven founding directors of the company combined their distinct talents and experiences to work towards their shared artistic aims.
