The Brelby Theatre Company located in Catlin Court Historic District, is excited to produce the Arizona premiere of Ghost the Musical, and the 50th production in the history of the company as the first MainStage in the new Brelby Playhouse.
Ghost the Musical features a book and lyrics by Bruce Joel Rubin and music and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard and a cast and production team comprised of Brelby Collaborative Artists and up and coming Arizona actors.
Ghost the Musical follows the stories of young lovers Sam and Molly, portrayed by David Samson and Taylor Moskowitz Gratil. Sam is murdered in a mugging while he and Molly walk back to their apartment one night. Sam now trapped as a ghost between this world and the next is desperate to protect Molly from danger.
"This show is about the power of love and the perseverance to do anything for the one you love. It's about having faith even when everything looks desolate," says Samson. Sam enlists the help of a storefront psychic, Oda Mae Brown (played by Anne-Lise Koyabe), to communicate for him to maintain his connection with Molly and avenge his death. It's a show about human connection under the unfortunate circumstance of loss, but audiences will connect with the emotions portrayed by all of these characters.
"My favorite part about the show is how real it is," says Moskowitz Gratil. "I'm excited for the audience to experience the journey through the love, mourning, and struggle. It has some amazing raw moments that I can't wait for them to be a part of!"
"I'm also very excited to perform in the new Brelby space," says Koyabe of the intimate new venue. "They'll really feel like they're a fly on the wall, watching this story unfold, watching these characters go through all these familiar emotions front and center. I'm expecting there won't be a dry eye in the house by the end of it."
Ghost the Musical features returning performances by several Brelby artists: Fernando Perez as Willie Lopez (Meet the Dryers, The Age of Eibhleann), Melody Chrispen as Hospital Ghost (Be a Good Little Widow, The Age of Eibhleann), Mia Passarella as Subway Ghost (Little women, missing grace), Shandi Mortensen (The Oz Chronicles), Mat Vansen (The Oz Chronicles, After Hours at Rosie's Pub), Aubrea Robards (The Miscast Concert), Monica Bollt (The Miscast Concert), Brenna Jackson (After Hours at Rosie's Pub), Allison Bauer (missing grace, Beyond Musketeers: Utopia Lost), and Gabriel Escudero (The Oz Chronicles).
