Fountain Hills Theater has announced the opening of the Film Noir musical, Gunmetal Blues. Created by acclaimed Valley composer, Craig Bohmler, Gunmetal Blues is a hard-boiled detective tale disguised as a lounge act---or the other way around? Direct from the Red Eye Lounge, Buddy Toupee tickles the ivories and serves up plot concoctions like a Chandleresque Greek chorus. The private eye searches for a missing blonde through a double-dealing world of smoky bars, rain-slicked streets and more blondes. This quest lures the audience to an unnamed city of mystery, music and demolished dreams.

Gunmetal Blues was created by Valley resident Craig Bohmler. Craig is a composer/pianist whose works have been widely performed in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. Primarily a composer for the singing theater and voice, Mr. Bohmler has written three operas and nine musicals as well as 150 art songs and numerous choral works. ENTER THE GUARDSMAN took first prize in the International Musical of the Year Competition in Denmark and opened in London's West End (produced by Sam Mendez at the Donmar Warehouse) in 1998. It was nominated for "best musical" at the Olivier Awards. It had its American premiere at the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival and then was named the most produced new musical in the regional theatres in 2001-2002 season by Variety Magazine. THE ACHILLES HEEL commissioned and premiered by Houston Grand Opera, was first prize winner in the National Opera Association Competition. GUNMETAL BLUES was presented in the National Theater Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Center at the Stratford Festival in Ontario. In addition to a successful Off-Broadway run, it has had over 120 productions in the U.S. and Canada. Other prizes include ASCAP and Dramatist Guild awards as well as two showcases with the National Music Theatre Alliance. The CD of the Laguna Playhouse production was released in October of 2000. He has written incidental music for four productions at the Stratford Festival in Ontario and a pantomime, GRETEL AND HANSEL for Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

Gunmetal Blues is produced by Anne Kelleher and directed by Peter J. Hill. Gunmetal Blues features Bill Moore, Ashlee Poynter and Michael Stewart.
