Fountain Hills Community Theater is proud to announce the opening of the classic Robert Bolt drama A Man for All Seasons.

This legendary drama is based on the fascinating, true story of English Chancellor Sir Thomas More and his moral objection to King Henry VIII's plan to leave the Catholic Church. When he is forced to decide whether to support or denounce the King, More chooses to take the most provocative action of all -- to remain silent. An enduring exploration of politics, religion and power, A Man for All Seasons is a moving story about one man's fight for his beliefs and the price he must pay for his convictions.

Fountain Hills Community Theater's production takes a unique and provocative approach by setting the action in the present day, drawing parallels to current situations and the political and moral need for men and women of conviction in today's world.

An early form of the play was written for BBC Radio in 1954, and a one-hour live television version starring Bernard Hepton was produced in 1957 by the BBC. It was first performed in London opening at The Globe Theatre (now Gielgud Theatre) on July 1, 1960. It later found its way to Broadway, enjoying a critically and commercially successful run of over a year. It has had several revivals, and was subsequently made into a feature film and a television movie. A Man for All Seasons was made into a motion picture in 1966. Paul Scofield, who had played More in the West End stage premiere, also took the role in the film. It was directed by Fred Zinnemann, who had previously directed such films as High Noon and From Here to Eternity. The film won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

A Man for All Seasons is produced by Steve Mancarella and directed by Peter J. Hill and features Ray Arnold, Heidi Carpenter, Trudy Faull, Toni Fioramante, Randy Hesson, Jack Pauly, Tony Stirpe, Patricia Tonzi, Bill Vestal, Tom Vinopal, Janis Webb and Richard Wells.
