Failing producer Max Bialystock and his accountant, Leo Bloom, scam a group of elderly women out of their nest eggs by convincing them to invest in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical secretly intended to bomb the moment it opens. But when highbrow Broadway audiences mistakenly assume "Springtime for Hitler" is a satire, Bialystock finds himself with the critical acclaim that has long eluded him -- and the biggest hit of his career.
In the late 90's, director, actor, and writer Mel Brooks was convinced to turn his 1968 hit film of the same name into a Broadway musical. After an initial tryout in Chicago in 2001, the show opened on Broadway on April 19th, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, won 12 Tony Awards, and broke box office records in single day ticket sales. The roles of Max and Leo were famously played by Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick during the initial run.
The Producers, directed by the acclaimed animated filmmaker, Don Bluth, is now coming to Scottsdale and starring Don Crosby as Max Bialystock, Matt Crosby as Leo Bloom, Molly Jisa as Ulla along with an incredible group of valley actors. This is the first show in the theatre's 2016 season.
