The cast of Beauty and the Beast, on stage at Arizona Broadway Theatre through July 2, visited with Phoenix Children's Hospital on June 13. Patients were treated to a performance of A Change in Me by Belle and Beauty and the Beast by Mrs. Potts. Other characters visiting were Lumière and Chip.
"It goes without saying this was a very special day for all involved; most importantly, the kids at Phoenix Children's Hospital," said Brad York, Director of Marketing at ABT. "With ABT's rigorous schedule of 8 mainstage shows annually, countless hours of rehearsal, and over 35 scheduled performances of Beauty and The Beast, it's easy to get caught-up in the 'business' of producing theatre. Today was a reminder to all of us that there's no greater sense of accomplishment one can feel than to see the joy expressed through the smile of a child whose current day-to-day is filled with some not-so-fun stuff. Music and imagination heals, and we hope with our visit we were able to provide that little extra bit of healing."
Cast members also had an opportunity to visit with several children in their rooms including one special little girl celebrating her fourth birthday while wearing her gold Belle gown. She was thrilled to have her own private conversation with Belle for her birthday and to blow out Lumière's candles.
After completing its run on July 2, ABT's production of Beauty and the Beast will travel to the Herberger Theater Center in Downtown Phoenix where it will be on stage July 7 through 16 as part of the evolving partnership between two of the Valley premier arts organizations.
