The Brelby Theatre Company located in Catlin Court Historic District, is proud to present the world premiere of Cold War Kids by Miranda Giles. The coming of age drama directed by Fernando Perez explores friendship during trying times.
"Although the artists involved in this process weren't old enough to have lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis, we can all relate to the themes present in the play about growing up and seeing our friendships change," says Artistic Director Shelby Maticic. "We have our own major world events that we can look back on and remember how they shaped us as kids and teens. This show beautifully weaves together the story of these two girls, as they handle family drama in an uncertain world."
Best friends, Janna and Krissy, are standing on the brink of adolescence while the United States stands on the brink of nuclear war. As their friendship crumbles, they struggle with the usual challenges of puberty, parents, and teachers, but also a growing awareness of their place in a larger, shifting world. Will they continue on a path of mutually assured social destruction or turn back before it's too late?
Brelby partners with local downtown Glendale businesses to offer more options for audience members. By showing their digital ticket, audiences can receive 10% off of their bill at the Hop Stop Diner, 10% off of any entrée at Haus Murphy's Restaurant, and 10% off of a customer's bill at the Olde Towne Glendale (OTG) Beer & Wine Bar or the Gaslight Inn.
