Aside Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere of BUT IN OURSELVES by Hannah Stewart and Keach James Siriani-Madden.
BUT IN OURSELVES explores the "Red thread of fate" that connects Holly, Skye, Kevin, Augustine, Carrie, Gabe and Laurel. According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those they are destined to meet. This piece tells the familiar stories of love and pain using and stylized movement and a soundscape of Ben Vining on cello.
The plot and staging for this work is a collaboration between cast and playwrights, utilizing a technique known as "devising". This approach, developed by the British dance company, Frantic Assembly, uses movement exercises as the base inspiration for creating original performance pieces.
Co-author -Hannah Stewart said, "The connections people share, the disconnects that drive people apart, and the near misses that drag us all into the ether somewhere between. These are the moments that shape our lives. In these moments, we explore the endless world of possibilities between every person we come across, and how quickly those possibilities can become realities in a single moment of connection, or an opportunity missed. From misunderstandings between siblings or lovers, to the bond between friends with nowhere else to turn, the experiences that make life a painful, wonderful, beautiful adventure come alive in this narrative of seven individuals looking for understanding in a world just a little too big to take on alone."
Producer Nathaniel J. Burns said, "BUT IN OURSELVES takes you on a journey through hypnagogic states, motorcycle crashes and the love feared, fought for and shared will resonate with you.
