Arizona Theatre Company will present a range of new works from local playwrights, poets, writers and storytellers at the Café Bohemia WordUp Showcase, Saturday, May 10 at 9 p.m. at The Temple Lounge, 330 S. Scott Ave.
There is no cost to participate or attend, although donations are accepted.
WordUp Showcase is supported by Emerson and Peggy Knowles, Providence Service Corporation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
New works will be presented by Esther Almazan, Pam Burris, Will Cordeiro, Linda Evans, Michael Fenlason, Kelly J. Hardesty, Kim Lowry, Leslie Powell, Ron Pullins, Dawn Costello Sellers, Germaine Shames and Eugenia Woods, and be performed by Matt Bowdren, Harold Dixon, Maedell Dixon and Avis Judd.
Stephen Wrentmore, Katherine Monberg and Amber Tibbitts are directing the performances.
Plays previously showcased at Café Bohemia have gone on to numerous successful productions including Michael Mejias's Ghetto Babylon, which also was awarded ATC's 2012 National Latino Playwriting Award; Steve Holiday's award-winning Savage Bond at the Beowulf Alley Theatre Company in Tucson; Kill Shakespeare by Anthony del Col and Conor McCreery in New York, Chicago, Seattle, California and Dubai; and Dwayne Hartford's The Color of Stars, which was produced and toured across Arizona by Childsplay.
