Arizona Theatre Company Closes the Curtain on GLASS MENAGERIE, 4/11

Arizona Theatre Company will be ending its run of The Glass Menagerie in Pheonix on April 11.  The Tennessee Williams play has four remaining performances- April 8 at 8PM, April 10 at 2PM and 8M, and April 11 at 1PM.  For tickets, visit www.aztheatreco.org.

In the 1930s in a small tenement apartment in St. Louis, the Wingfield family awaits your visit. The mother Amanda lives in an illusion of recapturing her faded Southern Belle glory, her daughter Laura lives in a fantasy world of delicate glass figurines, and her son Tom dreams poetically of a world beyond the back stoop.  When Tom brings home a Gentleman Caller to meet his sister, The Glass Menagerie weaves these lives into a heart-stopping dance of hopes pursued and dreams betrayed.  Considered by many to be Tennessee Williams' greatest play, The Glass Menagerie is an achingly beautiful story of longing and love that has touched generations of theatergoers with its sparkling, delicate radiance.

The Glass Menagerie is the third show in ATC's "AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories" series following our universally acclaimed productions of To Kill A Mockingbird and A Raisin in the Sun. This unique initiative is designed to engage audiences both through the onstage performance and community activities designed to enhance the understanding of this classic play.

Forty-one years ago, quality professional theatre for the people of Arizona was just a dream. Today ATC is recognized as one of the most dynamic theatres in the country.  Founded in Tucson by Sandy Rosenthal in 1967 as the Arizona Civic Theatre, ATC achieved professional status in 1972, when it began hiring Actors' Equity performers on a modified League of Resident Theater (LORT) contract. The Arizona Civic Theatre began presenting a portion of its season in Phoenix in 1978, and a year later the name was changed to the Arizona Theatre Company.

As the professional resident theatre of Arizona, ATC has been performing full seasons in both Phoenix and Tucson to a combined audience of more than 150,000 since 1983. ATC has been cited as a national model for professional performing arts institutions in consideration of how it has managed and produced full performance seasons in two cities and how it has built audience support and established fiscal stability in both communities.
