Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Arizona Theatre Company has received a one-time grant of $50,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. Arizona Theatre Company is one of four arts organizations in the state to have received a grant from the Recovery Act. This grant helps preserve key positions in our Education staff in Tucson and Phoenix, allowing The company to continue its education programs throughout the State of Arizona.
"We are both honored and humbled to be one of only four arts organizations from Arizona to receive funds to continue these very important positions at Arizona Theatre Company," said Kevin Moore, managing director. "Thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts and President Obama, ATC is able to continue to share its work with children and adults throughout the entire state."
"In the current economic climate it becomes even more necessary to provide community outreach efforts in the arts," added ATC Artistic Director David Ira Goldstein. "The innovative programs that our Education staff provides reach from the border communities south of Tucson to the Native American communities far north of Phoenix. This grant helps us to encourage learning and imagination in young people who represent our region's future, while keeping professional artists employed."The Recovery Act recognizes that the non-profit arts industry is an important sector of the economy. The National Endowment for the Arts is uniquely positioned to fund arts projects and activities that preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.
