Arizona Broadway Theatre will celebrate its fifth annual "ABT Takes Manhattan" trip to New York City and Broadway in early June. Thirty-two patrons will join representatives from the ABT staff for six days and five nights in the Big Apple. Highlights of the trip will include Broadway shows, behind-the-scenes theatre experiences, and unique dining opportunities.

"Years ago, the idea to build the Arizona Broadway Theatre was actually conceived in New York City," said Kiel Klaphake, Executive Producer and CEO of the organization. "My wife Cassandra and I lived in Manhattan for several years. It seems only natural that we share our personal history and knowledge of the city with the folks who have become such loyal fans of Broadway-style theatre at ABT. Our patrons love the personal attention and the insider perspectives that we are able to provide. Many of the people on our tour this year have travelled with us to New York in the past. Repeat attendance is truly the ultimate compliment."

In the past, the trip has included 5 days and 4 nights at a hotel in Times Square, at the heart of the theatre district. This year, in celebration of ABT's fifth tour, an extra day has been added to the itinerary.

"It is an ABT tradition since 2013 that we see the previous year's Tony Award winner for Best Musical, so the most stressful thing about planning the trip this year was securing enough tickets for everyone to see Hamilton An American Musical," said Ellen Versen, who coordinates the annual excursion. "This trip went on sale in October, and by November 1, we had filled every spot."

The group will also see Bette Midler in Hello Dolly!, Norm Lewis in Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Christian Borle in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Other stops will include observation of an actual Arizona Broadway Theatre dance call audition, a Hamilton-based walking tour of Wall Street and the financial district, and a farewell dinner at iconic Broadway dining spot Sardi's.
