Fundacion Centro Flamenco (Centro Flamenco), the country’s premier flamenco dance school, will stage the full-length original flamenco ballet titled “La Luna Roja” (The Red Moon) at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium (RCBC building, Makati) on November 25-26.
Directed by Leo Rialp and choreographed by Emma Estrada, artistic directress of Centro Flamenco, “La Luna Roja” unravels a dark fairy tale, which involves an unrequited love, a curse, and freedom at the cost of a true love’s sacrifice--told through the passionate, fiery art expression that is flamenco.
Joining the predominantly local cast of dancers are guest artists from Spain, including Javier Martos, also the show’s co-choreographer, who plays the romantic lead “Jamil,” as well as a trio of musicians: singer Sergio Gómez “El Colorao”, guitarist Rubén Campos, and percussionist (cajon) José Cortez.
Acclaimed stage actress and trained flamenco dancer Tami Monsod, who plays the sorceress, professional flamenco dancer and teacher, formerly based in Singapore, Angel Gomez, and members of the Grupo Nuevo Flamenco are also part of the company.
