Celebrating its 10th anniversary in London's West End, WICKED's UK and international tour opened at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford last Wednesday, July 20. Bradford is its only tour stop in the UK that's outside of London.
The production will then transfer to the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore from Thursday, September 29. Performances at The Hong Kong for Performing Arts Lyric Theatre in Hong Kong from Thursday, December 8, and at the Theatre at Solaire in Manila from Thursday, February 2, will follow.
WICKED is produced by Marc Platt Universal Stage Productions, The Araca Group, John B. Platt, and David Stone.
In the Philippines, WICKED first played the Cultural Center of the Philippines where it had a successful seven-week run to sold-out audiences two years ago.
Around the world, WICKED has now been seen by more than 50 million people in 14 countries and won over 100 major awards, which include three Tony Awards.
Based on the best-selling novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire, which cleverly reimagines the stories and characters in L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," "WICKED tells the incredible story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students Galinda and Elphaba: their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda The Good and Wicked Witch of the West," its official synopsis says.
WICKED features music and lyrics, including the popular hit "Defying Gravity," by multi-Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz; musical staging by Tony winner Wayne Cilento, and stage direction by Tony winner Joe Mantello.
