Manila, Philippines--While in rehearsal, producers Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and Concertus Manila presented Jonathan Roxmouth and Meghan Picerno to the members of the press earlier today. Roxmouth and Picerno will lead the cast of the all-new world tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," which kicks off on February 20, 2019, at The Theatre at Solaire.
Earlier this month, the cast and crew were flown in from all over the world to begin setting up and rehearsing in Manila.
Roxmouth, a South African actor, revisits one of his greatest stage roles, The Phantom, which he played in Manila in 2012.
Picerno, on the other hand, played soprano Christine Daae in "Love Never Dies," a sequel to "The Phantom of the Opera," in its U.S. premiere and first U.S. National Tour.
Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," the longest-running show in Broadway history, has won over 70 major theater awards, including seven Tonys and four Oliviers.
Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L'Opéra by Gaston Leroux, "The Phantom of the Opera" tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command.
"PHANTOM is undoubtedly a musical masterpiece. We're very excited to be able to bring the show back to Manila for its many faithful fans, as well as those who have never had the chance to see this legendary show," said James Cundall, CEO, Lunchbox Theatrical Productions.
After Manila (until March 31, 2019), the show will also visit Singapore, Malaysia, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates.
