Base Entertainment Asia ("Jersey Boys", "Defending the Caveman") and Singapore Repertory Theatre ("Golden Child", "Into the Woods") are holding auditions for Filipino and Singaporean young talents, ages 8 to 13, to fill the roles of young cubs Simba and Nala in the Southeast Asian premiere of Disney Theatrical Group's "The Lion King".  Auditions will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2010 from 2 p.m. onwards at the Singapore Repertory Theatre, Robertson Walk #02-08, 11 Unity Street, Singapore 237995. Singing and dancing experience is required.

The 1998 Tony award-winning musical "The Lion King" is currently the eight longest-running show in Broadway history.  Originally staged by visionary director Julie Taymor ("The Tempest", "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark"), this stage spectacle is based on the 1994 hit Disney animated flick "The Lion King" featuring music by Sir Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, musical score by Hans Zimmer, and vocal arrangements by Lebo M.  The love duet from the movie "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" won the 1994 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

"The Lion King" tells the powerful and moving story of Simba - the epic adventure of a Hero, and the King of the Pridelands.

Base Entertainment Asia brings the phenomenal musical to the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore beginning March 2011.  The people behind the Company are very much committed to duplicate the original Broadway elements of the show - its hummable pop songs, gorgeous sets, and intricate Bunraku puppet-inspired costumes.

"Base Entertainment (New York, Las Vegas, Houston) has just set up a subsidiary in Singapore so we are excited to open the state-of-the-art theatre at Marina Bay Sands with Disney Theatrical Group's 'The Lion King', one of the most spectacular Broadway shows in history. The show has a tremendous reputation throughout the entertainment industry, and we anticipate a strong demand for 'The Lion King' in Singapore from locals and visitors alike," said Milan Rokic, Vice President and Managing Director of Base Entertainment Asia.

Six successful applicants for the roles of young cubs Simba and Nala will star alongside a cast of 49 triple threats who hail from eight countries and five continents, including "The Lion King" alums from the West End and Paris productions. The Singapore production will likewise cast South African talents to preserve the show's spirit of authenticity.

Young auditionees from the Philippines and Singapore must register for the auditions. Please email resume with a headshot at LionKingAuditions@srt.com.sg no later than Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
