Manila, Philippines--Tickets to the international tour of Disney's "The Lion King," went on sale yesterday, October 25, to customers of sponsoring presenters Globe and Visa, with Manila audiences lining up at the door, setting new box office records.
"The Lion King," presented by Michael Cassel Group and Concertus Manila, in association with Disney Theatrical Productions, has sold over 14,000 tickets on day one of the priority booking period, eclipsing the previous record of a single day of sales of Cameron Mackintosh's "Les Miserables," which played the Theatre at Solaire in the first quarter last year.
"From the thousands of people who joined the initial priority waitlist to the ticket sales skyrocketing on day one alone, it's clear that Manila just can't wait for 'The Lion King,' Concertus Manila is truly excited to be part of a production as monumental as this," Joey Verzo, managing director of Concertus Manila, said in a statement.
Robert Sewell, president of TicketWorld, is just as overwhelmed with the response. "For years, 'The Lion King' had topped all our surveys when we asked the Philippine theater-going audience what they wanted to see..."
Customers of Globe and Visa can still purchase tickets to "The Lion King" before the general public; this special priority booking offer is only for a limited time, now through November 2. Visit TheLionKing.ph.
Tickets will be sold to the general public on November 3; book at TicketWorld.com.ph.
"The Lion King," which is celebrating its 20th year on Broadway next month, will begin performances in Manila at the Theatre at Solaire on March 18, 2018.
