Cebu, Philippines--Just in time for Halloween, the Vaudeville Theatre Company stages the Broadway musical "The Addams Family," which features the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.
The musical comedy will play at SM City Cebu, Cinema 1, this weekend, October 20 and 21, 2018. Tickets (P400-P800) are available at Ticket2Me.net or call Rose at 63922-920-8330.
Based on the popular characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams, "The Addams Family" tells the story of 18-year-old Wednesday Addams who "has found herself experiencing a surprising new sensation, one that frightens both her and her [no ordinary] family; Wednesday has fallen in love.
"As her family learns to relate to the seemingly normal Beinekes and cope with Wednesday's romance, one thing is certain: the Addams family will never be the same," says its official synopsis.
The Vaudeville Theatre Company, whose maiden production was also a musical comedy, "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, in 2016, is one of the newest musical theater companies in Cebu. Founded by Artistic Director Penelop Ong, the theater company aims to provide local musical theater artists to showcase their talents in theatrical performances that are suitable for children and family audiences.
"I want Visayas and Mindanao--Cebuanos most especially--to get a taste of world-class musicals done by locals," Ong tells Sunstar Cebu.
"I hope that one day, Cebu can become the hub for theater arts in Visayas and Mindanao and I plan to do this through Vaudeville Theatre Company, which aims to promote Cebuano talents by staging productions and educating the Cebuano audience through workshops and musicals--leveling it up each time."
Musically, Cebu, in Central Visayas Region, is more known for its BisRock bands such as Missing Filemon, Junior Kitkat, Phylum, and Scrambled Eggs, among others. Its annual reggae, rave, and pop music festivals have a strong following as well.
Worthy of note, Visayan music advocate Jude Gitamondoc, whose BisRock jukebox musical "Gugmang Giatay" played at the BGC Arts Center in Manila last year, is part of Vaudeville Theatre Company's "The Addams Family" as its musical director. Gitamondoc joins Ong, also the show's director, and Vincent Gaton, choreographer.
Its cast includes Rana Sai Lavador (Wednesday Addams), Alexandrea Mae Alix (Wednesday Addams), Van Duke Gacayan (Lucas Beineke), Mark Stephen Cuizon (Lucas Beineke), Edison Saynes (Gomez), Jeanette Lavilla (Morticia), Tyler Axell Tolentino (Pugsley), Clark Van Daryl Jolbot (Fester), Tiffany Neri (Grandma), Kevin Reams (Lurch), Oscar Vincent Silang (Mal Beineke), Sunshine Atup (Alice Beineke), and Khristine Consuegra (Alice Beineke).
