Manila, Philippines, September 9, 2012 - Repertory Philippines (Rep), the country's premier English-speaking theater company, is looking for sponsors to take more than 250 poor children, who live in Cavite and Quezon City, to Rep's ongoing children's theater production, "The Wizard of Oz," at Onstage,  2/F Greenbelt One, Makati City on Tuesday, September 30 at 2:30 p.m.

"The Wizard of Oz" is considered one of the greatest children's stories of all time. With awe-inspiring special effects that sweep audiences away (theater reviewers have mentioned those, too), "The Wizard of Oz" allows children to experience both musical and dance numbers from the show's different characters led by Dorothy, a young farm girl from Kansas, as she befriends a scarecrow, a tin man, and a lion to avoid the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West and to find the mighty Wizard.

"We should encourage our children as early as three years old to watch musical productions to help them develop their creativity and imagination," said Joy Virata, artistic director of Rep's Children's Theater, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Rep's production of "The Wizard of Oz" is an adaptation of the all-time classic tale, with music by Jeanne Bargy and Jim Eiler, and book and lyrics by Eiler. This particular presentation does not include any of the songs from the popular MGM film of the same name (ergo, the Academy Award winning song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is not part of the repertoire).

To sponsor a child, call (632) 5716926 or 5714941,  email info@repertory.ph, or log on to www.repertory.ph.
