Tanghalang Pilipino, the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, opens its 26th season with Severino Reyes' immortal Filipino sarsuwela "Walang Sugat" at Tanghalang Aurelio V. Tolentino from August 16 to 26, 2012. Highly esteemed film director Carlos Siguion-Reyna helms the production, and makes his stage directorial debut.
"Walang Sugat" tells the love story of Julia and Tenyong whose forbidden relationship had been further hampered by their social status, political, and religious beliefs during the height of the Philippine revolutionary movement against the Spanish colonizers in 1896-1898.
The sarsuwela stars Antonio "Arman" Ferrer as Tenyong, who also played the same role in Tanghalang Ateneo's campus-based production of "Walang Sugat" two years ago.
BroadwayWorld photographer/videographer Jeffrey Aguiman has captured a snippet of Ferrer's solo performance at Tanghalang Pilipino's press conference for "Walang Sugat" held recently at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts lobby in Intramuros, Manila. See the video!
