Manila, Philippines--Repertory Philippines (REP) is bringing back one of its acclaimed original musicals "Miong," which tells the story of Emilio "Miong" Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines (1899-1901), who embarks on a mission to unite the Filipino people during a time of social division.
The show, which stars Tim Pavino, plays at the Onstage Theatre at Greenbelt 1 in Makati City, starting February 15, 2019, and will run through March 10, 2019.
Written and directed by REP Artistic Director Joy Virata, "Miong" also features songs by Ian Monsod, with additional lyrics by Freddie Santos.
When the Spanish colonizers assert their power over the Filipinos by turning them against each other, a young Miong understands that the key to freedom lies in unity. Though he wants his countrymen to be liberated from oppression, he's a conflicted leader who is unsure of what course of action to take. Miong digs into this controversial figure's motivations, giving audiences a fuller idea of his origins, traits, and psyche.
Pavino will be joined by Noel Rayos (Berong), Cara Barredo (Yayang), Meynard Penalosa (Father Blas), and Elver Esquivel (Don Carlos).
Dexter Santos is the choreographer; Ejay Yatco, musical director.
Get tickets (P1,000-P1,500) from REP at 632-451-1474 or TicketWorld at 632-891-9999.
