Manila, Philippines-- Michael Frayn's outrageously funny three-act play NOISES OFF is next on the agenda of Repertory Philippines (Rep), the country's premier English-language theater company behind recent hits "August: Osage County" and "Wait Until Dark."
In NOISES OFF, whose 1992 film adaptation starred Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, and Christopher Reeve, reveals both on and offstage antics of a sleep-deprived touring company of actors who are rehearsing and performing their silly sex comedy, "Nothing On." Frayn came up with the gem of an idea for NOISES OFF while he was watching one of his farces, "The Two of Us," from the wings, noting that things were even funnier offstage than on stage.
NOISES OFF, which in theater parlance means "unnecessary sounds coming from backstage," premiered in London in 1982. On Broadway, the play opened in 1983, which starred Dorothy Loudon, Victor Garber, and Brian Murray. Former New York Times' theater critic Frank Rich calls the play, "the funniest play written in my lifetime."
Rep's production, directed by Miguel Faustmann, will star Chinggoy Alonso (Lloyd Dallas), Frances Makil Ignacio (Dotty Otley, Mrs. Clackett), Paul Holme (Selsdon Mowbray), Shiela Valderrama-Martinez (Belinda Blair, Flavia Brent), Lorenz Martinez (Garry Lejeune, Roger Tramplemain), Carla Guevara-Laforteza (Brooke Ashton, Vicki), Gerard Sison (Frederick Fellowes, Philip Brent), Peachy Atilano (Poppy Norton-Taylor), and Nico Dans (Tim Allgood).
Rep's NOISES OFF will run at Onstage Theatre (2/F, Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas corner Legazpi St., Makati City) from Friday, March 28 to Sunday, April 27.
