"Bonifacio' has a lot of bloody scenes, battles and killings right there onstage," says PSF's honcho.
The play premieres Friday, July 19 at PSF's longtime theater venue, Tanghalang Pasigueño, at 6 p.m.
Besides his writing and directing chores, Tañada also plays the title role.
Stage actor JM Encinas is Tañada's homegrown alternate.
Just like PSF's past productions, the touring productions of "Cory Ng EDSA" and "Joe: The Filipino Rock'sical," PSF's "Bonifacio" is expected to run and travel to Visayas and Mindanao, Philippines until March next year.
"Bonifacio" aims to inspire young audiences to live a life of sacrifice like what Bonifacio, also known as the Father of Philippine Revolution, did.
According to Tañada, "It is Bonifacio's extreme love for our country that made him sacrifice his life. Such kind of love is the noblest; it is selfless and munificent."
He asks, "How many young people today appreciate that love for country? How much of ourselves can we offer for the good of our country and fellow countrymen?"
Besides Tañada and Encina, "Bonifacio" also features Cindy Liper as Gregoria de Jesus, Jordan Ladra and Kevin Posadas as Emilio Aguinaldo, Monique Azerreda and Adelle Ibarrientos-Lim as Hilaria Aguinaldo, and Patrick Adrian Libao as Emilio Jacinto.
