"One of the things you will learn from watching Matilda is that we all have the power - inside of us - to make the world a better place. If we say or do something that's not right, you make a change. And that change may come from one person, in this case, a young girl." - Natalie Gilhome, resident director
Manila, Philippines - When Matilda The Musical premiered at the Cambridge Theatre in the West End in 2011, The Guardian gave it five stars and described it as "anarchically joyous, gleefully nasty, and an ingenious musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel of the same name." About nine years after, now a beloved musical for all ages, Matilda The Musical finally opened at The Theatre at Solaire in Manila for a limited three-week engagement.
Winner of over 50 international awards, including four Tony Awards and seven Olivier Awards, Matilda The Musical tells the story of an extraordinary five-year-old schoolgirl who dreams of a better life away from her dysfunctional family. Gifted with above-average intelligence and a one-time telekinetic power, Matilda takes a stand - never hunkering down - and forges her destiny.
"Matilda The Musical is one of those shows where you'll leave the theatre singing the tunes, and you'll think about it for days; you'll think about the characters, and you'll be glad that Matilda did what she did," said Haley Flaherty, who plays Miss Honey, Matilda's school teacher.
"There's also a lot of magic in the show. And to see Matilda on stage, who is the strongest character in the show, you'll leave the theatre thinking, "Yeah, she did good; the girl did good," she added.
The principal cast of Matilda The Musical includes Claire Taylor (Mrs. Wormwood), Nompumelelo Mayiyane (Mrs. Phelps), Stephen Jubber (Mr. Wormwood), Haley Flaherty (Miss Honey), Hayden Tee (Miss Trunchbull), and the three child actors alternating as Matilda: Sofia Poston, Zara Yazbek Polito, and Zoe Modlinne.

Matilda The Musical, the multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, features the book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. Some of its songs that pack an extra punch include "When I Grow Up," "Revolting Children," and "Naughty."
