Paris Broadway Saigon showcases the talents of Filipino singers and former "Miss Saigon" actors Leila Florentino and Dennis Astorga in "Simply Broadway," an evening of classic and contemporary show tunes, at the Theatre de Nesle, 8 rue de Nesle, 75006 Paris on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 5 p.m., Friday, July 2 at 9 p.m., and Saturday, July 3 at 5 p.m. Patrick Laviosa is musical director. Stephane Ly-Cuong is artistic director.
Florentino played the lead role of Kim in "Miss Saigon" in New York from 1992 -1993. After her Broadway debut, she went on to perform in the musical "Bugis Street" in Singapore, sing in various concerts in Malaysia and the Philippines, and record an all-original album entitled "Sail". She now lives in Paris where she regularly performs, and teaches private voice lessons at the Leila Florentino School of Voice.
On the other hand, Astorga joined the West End Company of "Miss Saigon" in the late '90s. While singing in a choir named "His Sound" and the Sagwan Arts Group, he had his first foray into professional musical theatre through New Voice Company's Manila production of "Chess" in 1996. Like Florentino, he now lives in Paris. He has already played in two French stage musicals "Tintin et le Temple du Soleil" and "Les Demoiselles de Rochefort". He is also seen in various concerts in Paris singing French, English and Filipino repertoire.
Both recently performed before a live Filipino audience at the Philippine Embassy in Paris's 112th anniversary celebration of Philippine Independence on Saturday, June 12, 2010.
"Simply Broadway" with Florentino and Astorga presents their unique renditions of Broadway songs from "Les Miserables", "Nine", "Evita", "Billy Elliot," and "Miss Saigon."
